Alko AKS 50mm Towball for Use with Retention Plate
The Alko AKS series stabilising coupling heads are standard on many European caravans and optional for some Australian and New Zealand models using a 50mm towball. These coupling heads use four friction pads to reduce caravan or trailer snaking by resisting rotation. A 50mm towball that cannot loosen from rotation is essential for this system.
European tow vehicles typically have a rigid forged 50mm towball bolted to the towbar, which stays secure with the AKS stabiliser. In Australia and New Zealand, most towballs are fixed through the towbar tongue with a washer and nut, which can loosen during normal turning with an AKS coupling head.
