What Size Camlock Fittings Do You Need?
You only need to know two things:
1. The size of your caravan’s waste outlet
2. The size of your sullage hose
Once you know those, choosing the correct camlock fitting is straightforward.
Caravan Waste Outlet Sizes
Your caravan will have either a barbed outlet or a threaded outlet.
Barbed Outlet (Most caravans without grey tanks)
Common size: 25mm barbed outlet
The barbed tail of the camlock simply pushes into your sullage hose.
Threaded Outlet (Most caravans with grey tanks)
Common size: 1 ½" BSP (40mm) male thread
You’ll need a Type A or Type F camlock with the correct BSP thread.
If using a 25mm hose, you’ll also need a 1 ½" BSP → 1" BSP reducer.
Sullage Hose Sizes
Caravan sullage hoses come in **four standard internal diameters:
25mm
27mm (sometimes called 28mm)
32mm
38mm (sometimes called 40mm)
Matching Hose Size to Camlock Barb Size
25mm barbed camlock
Fits 25mm, 27mm, or 28mm hoses
(This is the most versatile and most common size.)
28mm barbed camlock
Fits 32mm hose
40mm barbed camlock
Fits 38mm hose
Tip: Warm the hose in hot water before inserting the barb.
Secure with a worm‑drive hose clamp for a leak‑free connection.
What Size Sullage Hose Should You Use?
Most caravans:
25mm sullage hose
Lightweight, compact, easy to store, and perfect for kitchen sinks.
Caravans with showers:
You can still use 25mm hose if you have a grey water tank.
The tank acts as an accumulator — any excess flow temporarily stores in the tank and drains out through the hose.
When to use larger hoses (32mm or 38mm)
- High‑flow systems without a grey tank
- Permanent setups
- Commercial or heavy‑use environments
For 99% of caravans, 25mm is ideal.
