Selecting the Proper Ball Mount Drop or Rise for Your Trailer:
For safe and comfortable trailer towing, it's essential to have your trailer set up as level as possible. This reduces strain on the connection between the trailer and the hitch and ensures that the trailer tracks true behind your vehicle.
Follow these simple steps to determine the correct rise or drop needed for your trailer:
Measure Receiver Height: With your vehicle parked on level ground, measure the hitch height from the ground to the top of the receiver opening on the hitch.
Measure Coupler Height: Measure from the bottom of the trailer's coupler to the ground, ensuring the trailer is on level ground and is level itself.
Subtract the Difference: Compute the difference between the receiver height and the coupler height. If the hitch height is greater than the coupler height, the difference is the drop required. If the coupler height is greater, then the difference is the rise required.
Select a fixed drop or adjustable ball mount with a rise or drop that is closest to the difference you calculated. For example, if the receiver hitch height is 26" and the trailer's coupler height is 20", then a 6" drop ball mount would be a perfect choice for this application. Please account for some adjustment if air bags are not being used to prevent the truck from sinking slightly when loaded.
