Alko AKS towball Retention Plate for European Vans with Alko Hitch

The Alko "AKS" range of stabilizing coupling heads is commonly found on European caravans as original equipment, and on some Australian and New Zealand caravans as an optional feature if a 50mm towball is used.

These heads effectively suppress snaking movements of the caravan or trailer through the use of four friction pads surrounding the towball. As a result of this design, it is crucial that the 50mm towball on the towing vehicle is unable to loosen through rotation.

In Europe, most tow vehicles use a rigid forged 50mm tow ball that is bolted to an attachment on the vehicle's towbar. This type of towball is not affected by the friction clamping of the AKS style stabilizer. However, in Australia and New Zealand, most tow vehicles use a conventional towball that is typically fixed through the towbar tongue and secured with a washer and nut. When used with an AKS style coupling head, this type of towball will come loose
